How to Measure for Your Perfect Jacket
Before You Begin
You will need:
-
A non-stretchable cloth measuring tape
-
A pen and paper (or notes app)
-
A helper (measuring alone is difficult and error-prone)
-
Snug pants and a fitted t-shirt (no bulky layers)
Please note:
-
All measurements should be in [inches / cm] — please specify which unit you are using.
-
Stand up straight and relaxed. Do not tuck in your tummy, push out your chest, or hold your breath.
-
Keep the tape snug but not tight — it should sit flat against your body without compressing it.
-
Measure over light clothing only, never over thick jackets or sweaters.
Common Mistakes to Avoid:
-
Using a stretchy tape measure
-
Pulling the tape too tight or too loose
-
Measuring without a helper
-
Slouching or standing unnaturally
-
Confusing inches with centimeters
Men’s Measurements
1. Neck
Place the tape around the base of your neck. Place two fingers between the tape and your neck for comfort ease. Note the measurement.
2. Shoulders
Measure from the tip of one shoulder, across your back, to the tip of the other shoulder. Keep the tape straight and level.
3. Chest
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest. Keep the tape level all the way around.
4. Biceps
Measure around the fullest part of your upper arm (bicep), keeping the tape level.
5. Sleeve Length (Outseam)
Start at your shoulder seam, keep your arm slightly bent, and measure down to the tip of your wrist.
6. Natural Waist
Measure around the narrowest part of your waist — usually 1–2 inches above your belly button. Bend slightly to one side; the crease is your natural waist.
7. Lower Waist
Measure around the widest part of your waist — usually at or just below the belly button.
8. Hips
Measure around the fullest part of your hips, above the top of your legs.
9. Center Back Length
Place the tape at the base of your neck (center back) and guide it straight down to your desired hem length.
10. Wrist
Measure around the narrowest part of your wrist, just above the wrist bone.
11. Pants Inseam (if ordering pants)
Measure from your crotch point down to your ankle bone.
Women’s Measurements
Follow the same steps as above, with these differences:
-
Bust (instead of Chest): Measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level.
-
All other measurements (neck, shoulders, biceps, sleeve, natural waist, lower waist, hips, center back, wrist, inseam) are the same as above.
Unit Reminder
-
